DDR-Plant - A dynamic, distributed repository for plant biodiversity data
12.10.2010
INFRA-2011-1.2.2 Data infrastructures for e-Science
Description of the project:
Federate institutional repositories for floristic data and make these accessible to a broad user array in the environmental sciences as well as to policy makers (conservation!) and the public (citizen science!). This includes a harmonization of the data management approaches in the currently distributed communities by establishing common workflows and editorial policies as well as data and metadata standards. This furthermore aims at the digital mobilization of offline-content.

Expertise offered:
The National Botanical Garden of Belgium is an internationally important Botanic Garden, situated just north of Brussels, in the centre of Belgium. The gardens are a centre of excellence for research on tropical and European botany, conducted in one of the largest herbaria in the world. Furthermore, the garden contributes towards plant conservation, aiming to protect as many plants as possible in their natural environments. This is done in partnership with many other national and international botanic gardens and conservation organisations.
The National Botanical Garden of Belgium is interested to know if any other similar project is under preparation and/or to join or collaborate with another project in order to broaden the scope of the proposal.
